I love my iPod - it's a gorgeous thing to own, it's incredibly convenient to use and my wife wears it around the house, so I don't have to talk to her any more. It's a wonderful piece of 21st Century technology, that actually sounds quite reasonable through headphones or in the car. IPods have revolutionised how we listen to music, in the same way that microwaves revolutionised how we cook food.
And that brings us to a very important point.
We all accept that microwaves have their place, but if you could choose between having your Sunday roast cooked in a microwave or cooked 'the proper way', what would you do? It's the same with music - if you want the full experience from your favourite tracks, you need a good quality CD player - an iPod won't even get close. Not surprising really, because the iPod recording process 'throws away' more than it keeps. This isn't particularly noticeable through mini headphones or in the car, but it becomes blindingly obvious when you play an iPod through a good quality Hi-Fi system. The players / systems featured below, showcase the brilliance of modern CD performance - they represent a full blown feast in a world dominated by TV dinners. Enjoy!
