QED have a history of making hugely successful cables, but if you talk 'off the record' with their top design boffins you will discover that as far as they are concerned the XT-400 is far and away the best thing they've ever done. Curiously, What Hi-Fi seemed to miss this at first, favouring its baby brother the XT-350 in its annual awards. We have no problem with this, because the XT-350 is a very good cable and it's £5 a metre cheaper than the XT-400 to boot. However, the truth of the matter is that in absolute terms the XT-400 is an awful lot better than the 350, so you could argue that the £5 extra per metre buys you performance which is actually nearly twice as good. It looks like What Hi-Fi have finally come around to this way of thinking too, because their April 2003 issue gave the XT-400 an outright 5-star review and a very strong recommendation.
