When Onkyo first gave us a sneak preview of their new range, we immediately recognised the potential for the TX-SR606 to be a runaway success, and that's proved to be absolutely correct. However in doing so, we rather overlooked its baby brother, the TX-SR506. But as soon as the first review pronouced it to be the best thing since the Wonderbra, demand sky-rocketed and we were forced to dramatically increase our orders. Just as well really, because this is a superb amp at a ludicrously low price - 7 x 130 watts + 3 HDMI inputs + Audyssey calibration + HDMI 1.3 switching, on an amp costing just £249 is plain crazy! We still think the 606 is even better value for money (4 HDMI inputs + True HD sound + conversion of non-HDMI sources into HDMI + a 1080i scaler), but if you stick a 506 with any of the speakers shown below, you'll have an excellent sounding system, that will delight you for years to come. For £250 there simply is no better buy.
So you can have 10 Wonderbras or an Onkyo 506 - either way, you'll have lots of fun with the installation!
To tempt you even further, we have set our price for the 506 at £225, saving you £25 off normal RRP and we've thrown in Free Delivery too. However, there are much bigger savings to be had if you go for one of our package deals, in which we bundle the 506 with all the best selling speaker systems - save up to £600!

The TX-SR506 can switch three 1080p HDMI inputs. The switches act as a pass through - i.e. they let through whatever resolution was fed into the amp, so that the same resolution hits the TV. The 506 cannot convert a non-HDMI input into HDMI - for that you need the Onkyo TX-SR606.
This amp will switch HDMI 1.3, but it will not process HDMI 1.3 sound (you need a 606 for that!)
Higher speed: Although all previous versions of HDMI have had more than enough bandwidth to support all current HDTV formats, HDMI 1.3 increases its single-link bandwidth to 340 MHz (10.2 Gbps) to support the demands of future HD display devices, such as higher resolutions, Deep Color and high frame rates. In addition, built into the HDMI 1.3 specification is the technical foundation that will let future versions of HDMI reach significantly higher speeds.
Deep Color: HDMI 1.3 supports 10-bit, 12-bit and 16-bit (RGB or YCbCr) color depths, up from the 8-bit depths in previous versions of the HDMI specification, for stunning rendering of over one billion colors in unprecedented detail.
Broader color space: HDMI 1.3 adds support for “x.v.Color™” (which is the consumer name describing the IEC 61966-2-4 xvYCC color standard), which removes current color space limitations and enables the display of any color viewable by the human eye.
New mini connector: With small portable devices such as HD camcorders and still cameras demanding seamless connectivity to HDTVs, HDMI 1.3 offers a new, smaller form factor connector option.
Lip Sync: Because consumer electronics devices are using increasingly complex digital signal processing to enhance the clarity and detail of the content, synchronization of video and audio in user devices has become a greater challenge and could potentially require complex end-user adjustments. HDMI 1.3 incorporates automatic audio synching capabilities that allows devices to perform this synchronization automatically with total accuracy.
New HD lossless audio formats: In addition to HDMI’s current ability to support high-bandwidth uncompressed digital audio and all currently-available compressed formats (such as Dolby® Digital and DTS®), HDMI 1.3 adds additional support for new lossless compressed digital audio formats Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio™.
