If your front speakers are bi-wire capable, you can use the 6th and 7th channels of this 7.1 amplifier to 'bi-amp'. This means that four amplifiers are driving the front speakers not two, giving a very useful boost in performance.
Higher speed: HDMI 1.3 increases its single-link bandwidth to 340 MHz (10.2 Gbps) to support the demands of future HD display devices, such as higher resolutions, Deep Color and high frame rates. In addition, built into the HDMI 1.3 specification is the technical foundation that will let future versions of HDMI reach significantly higher speeds.
Deep Color: HDMI 1.3 supports 10-bit, 12-bit and 16-bit (RGB or YCbCr) color depths, up from the 8-bit depths in previous versions of the HDMI specification, for stunning rendering of over one billion colors in unprecedented detail.
Broader color space: HDMI 1.3 adds support for “x.v.Color™” (which is the consumer name describing the IEC 61966-2-4 xvYCC color standard), which removes current color space limitations and enables the display of any color viewable by the human eye
Lip Sync: Because consumer electronics devices are using increasingly complex digital signal processing to enhance the clarity and detail of the content, synchronization of video and audio in user devices has become a greater challenge and could potentially require complex end-user adjustments. HDMI 1.3 incorporates automatic audio synching capabilities that allows devices to perform this synchronization automatically with total accuracy.
New HD lossless audio formats: In addition to HDMI’s current ability to support high-bandwidth uncompressed digital audio and all currently-available compressed formats (such as Dolby® Digital and DTS®), HDMI 1.3 adds additional support for new lossless compressed digital audio formats Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio™.

Onkyo TX-SR606
Oh dear, this is very bad news for the competition! For the last 12 months, Onkyo's AV amps have totally dominated the Home Cinema market. They've won just about every award in the book and sold in such huge quantities that at one point, Onkyo were taking 35% of ALL sales in the UK. This astonishing achievement was chiefly driven by the all-conquering TX-SR605, which wiped out the competition overnight, thanks to its unique blend of price, performance and connectivity. Through mouthfuls of sour grapes, rival manufacturers spluttered that the 605's success was a fluke that could never be repeated again - WRONG!!
Onkyo have just announced the 605's replacement, the TX-SR606 - and have moved the goalposts again! The 605 was already the best specified amp at its price point, but the 606 now boasts an incredible FOUR HDMI inputs, plus 1080i upscaling. On top of that, the 606 retains all the other features that made the 605 such a runaway success (7 x 140 watts, HDMI 1.3, True HD sound, iPod connectivity, Bi-Amping capability, etc). In one sweep of the designer's pen, Onkyo have significantly improved an amp that was already considered to be unbeatable, without increasing its price. The only flies in the chardonnay are Denon’s AVR-1909 and Yamaha's AX-763SE. The Denon has one less HDMI input, costs £60 more than the Onkyo and cannot be sold via mail order, due to Denon’s new dealer agreement. The Yamaha has two less HDMI inputs, no radio and no scaling. This will rule these two rival amps out for many customers, leaving the Onkyo as the natural choice in this ultra-competitive marketplace.
The official manual for this product is as thick as a telephone directory and appears to have been written by an alien. Our famous quickstart guides are written in-house by real people and will tell you in simple, easy to follow steps, how to get the very best out of your new purchase. Each amp we sell has its own specific guide, which is typically ten A4 pages long and covers all aspects of setup, including room layout, wiring and menu navigation. The guides also give you all the 'tips of the trade' that you get to know by being a specialist retailer for 20 years. Customer feedback indicates that these guides are worth their weight in gold - but we provide them absolutely free of charge!
In this country, the traditional way of terminating speaker cable is to use 4mm banana plugs. However, this amp is sold all around the world and in some countries, such plugs would be dangerous, because they would fit straight into a mains socket. For this reason, manufactures discourage the use of 4mm plugs by 'bunging up' the speaker outlets on their amplifiers. This forces customers to use bare-wire, which increases the likelihood of short-circuits and is incredibly tedious, particularly if good quality (i.e. thick) speaker cable is being used. Many of our customers therefore request that we remove the amp bungs for them. Even though it can be tricky and time consuming, we are happy to offer this service totally free of charge. Just as well really, because (as people who have bought the amp elsewhere have found!) this is not something that some customers can do on their own.
