When NAD first showed me their new VISO, I admit that I had a few reservations. It doesn't do 7.1, it doesn't support HDMI 1.3 and it doesn't have any HDMI inputs. However, with time I warmed to this rather smart new product, because the lack of HDMI inputs is no great concern as long as you have a couple of inputs on your TV, lack of HDMI 1.3 doesn't actually stop the NAD being used with a Blu Ray player and most people don't want 7 speakers in their lounge anyway! On top of that, the closest rival to the NAD is Arcam's excellent Solo Movie, which retails for exactly twice the price. In other words, once you understand what the NAD is all about, you realise that it's actually a rather clever piece of kit, with gorgeous looks, great specifications, relatively compact size and superb sound quality.

In fact, the Viso 5 gives many people exactly what they want - a stylish, high performance, 'all-in-one' Home Cinema solution. I can see this unit being incredibly popular, particularly when partnered with discrete sat / sub speaker packages, like Q Acoustics' excellent new Q-AV.
